As global trade policies evolve, businesses in Sarnia-Lambton are facing new challenges due to changing tariffs and economic uncertainties. The Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership (SLEP) is committed to supporting our local business community by providing guidance, resources, and connections to help navigate these developments.
As of April 2025, U.S. tariffs on select Canadian goods remain in place following their imposition on March 4, 2025. Ongoing discussions between Canada and the U.S. may affect these measures, so businesses should stay informed about potential changes.

Sarnia-Lambton’s economy is closely tied to international trade, particularly in manufacturing, chemicals, and agriculture. The imposed tariffs are expected to increase costs, disrupt supply chains, and create investment uncertainties. SLEP is closely monitoring the situation and working with government partners, industry associations, and business support organizations to provide businesses with the latest information and guidance on navigating these challenges.
Federal Feedback Sought on Tariff Measures
The Canadian government has concluded its public consultation period on proposed counter-tariffs, which ended on April 2, 2025. The government is reviewing the feedback and will announce the next steps soon. These measures target U.S. goods such as agricultural products, electronics, and vehicles.
