Forest is rolling out the red carpet for the region’s young movie minds with the Lambton Youth Short Film Festival.
“We are excited about the strong level of interest being expressed by our youth,” said Scott Ferguson, part of the Lambton Film and Food Festival Steering Committee in a press release.
Submissions have been opened for those aspiring film makers who hope to see their names up in lights.
Prizes will be awarded for categories spanning from animation to documentary and comedy to drama at the May 21. A People’s Choice Award will also be announced.
The short film competition kicks off a weekend dedicates to the art of movies with the Lambton Film and Food Festival in Forest.
Movie screenings will be occurring throughout the weekend at the Kineto Theatre and organizers boast of a tent stretching down the street measuring more than 40 meters. A table underneath will seat 112 people “situated in the centre of all Forest’s shops,” reads the event website.
For the short films, youth are rewarded for brevity with a three minute cap being put on all entries.
“Five films have been produced for the competition to date,” said Ferguson.
Winners will receive cash prizes and organizers are reaching out to area high schools in an effort to get the attention of students with big screen aspirations. Anyone interested in entering has to be a high school student.
While films that have been entered in other and past contests are allowed, the eligibility rules indicate that “new films making their ‘debut,’” will be given preference.
Anyone interested in entering is encouraged to send their video to forestfilmfestivals@gmail.com or can send it to an address listed on the forestfilmfestivals.com website.
The event, which falls under the Lambton Food and Film Festival umbrella is funded through a combination of clubs and a Creative County Fund grant.
