November 28, 2013 – Sarnia’s economic future looks brighter with news today that a solar energy company is locating in TransAlta’s Bluewater Energy Park.

There’s the potential for the creation of hundreds of full-time jobs.

Ubiquity Solar Inc. uses polysilicon to produce wafers used in the production of solar panels.

The company has announced a multi-phased approach that begins with construction of a demonstration pilot plant, creating 15 full-time jobs at a cost of about $11-million.

A $30-million full scale pilot plant is to follow with 54 permanent jobs.

In 2016 Ubiquity has plans to build a $600-million full scale production plant next to the pilot facility with the potential for 500 full-time jobs.

President and CEO Ian MacLellan says Sarnia’s readily available infrastructure attracted the company.

MacLellan says the solar industry is growing at an amazing rate to meet consumer demand for low cost, environmentally responsible energy.
